About

An African Knowledge Hub

Power From Below is an emerging African Knowledge Hub — a knowledge network connecting scholars, students, artists, educators, practitioners and community members interested in African knowledge, historical consciousness and renewal.

We create spaces for intellectual exchange where African histories, philosophies, cultures and knowledge systems can be explored through African perspectives. Our work spans research, essays, public dialogue, podcasts, exhibitions and community conversations.

From Kenya to Finland and across the diaspora, we foster dialogue that cultivates historical consciousness and contributes to more inclusive scholarship about Africa and its peoples.

African people already possess knowledge and voices. Our role is to create spaces where those knowledges can meet — connecting scholars and communities in the pursuit of understanding, renewal and shared futures.

Why We Exist

Centring African Knowledge on Its Own Terms

Africa has often been studied, represented and interpreted through external perspectives. While these perspectives form part of the historical record, they do not tell the whole story.

Power From Below exists to create spaces where African histories, philosophies, cultures, knowledge systems and lived experiences can be explored on their own terms.

We believe African knowledge is not a niche subject or regional specialization. It is an essential part of understanding humanity, history and our shared future.

Through research, storytelling, public dialogue and community engagement we cultivate historical consciousness and contribute to more inclusive conversations about Africa and its diasporas.
